Thorwesten relies on the SENNEBOGEN 5500 Star-Lifter crawler crane to meet the challenging requirements and loads inherent in silo construction. The special design of the silos means that the load on the crane is increased continuously. The silo construction process begins with the roof and between 8 and 10 steel rings (depending on the design) with a diameter of 8.5 m, a height of 2.5 m and weighing around 6 t are mounted step-by-step. "From the start of construction to the completion of the silo, the 5500 lifts up to 70 t with a projection of 8 - 9 m" explains the crane operator Uwe Lessig. With a boom length of 41.1 m the machine is ideal for this task.
